I have heard that the raptor will outrun a banshee and a Ds, that is bull, how can any quad be ANY faster than a DS? i just got mine and its quick, I would also like to know if anyone has Done a DRAG RACE with a banshee, and will the can the DS beat a bansee in adrag race? and will i eventully get use to the wide suspension?

i have less then $1500.00 in mods on my ds. this includes my 30ci blower. its takes a lot more then a ported banshee to pull me. the only banshees that do pull me are the over built side pipe jobs. that have to change there plugs every 3 pass. i'm not a banshee hater. i have one 87 toomey pipes, milled head, ported, boyesen reeds, kn filter. and yes the ds will woop it.

I believe the mag that tested the Raptor states that the Raptor would dust the DS as easily as the DS smokes the 400ex. Also, the Raptor felt at least 3-5 mph faster on top end. They went on to say it would probably humiliate the DS in a drag. Yamaha states that the Raptor is a performance step-up from the Banshee, which is why it is their flagship performance quad.
'00 Banshee
'00 400ex (now has a new home!)
'01 Raptor on order (either color)

Any idea (speculation of course) what kind of mods will have to be done to a Banshee before it will outrun a Raptor? My reason for asking is because I was under the impression that it already takes a piped Banshee to stay with a DS650. If that is the case, then wouldn't we be talking about a piped and ported 'shee in order to keep up with/be faster than a stock Raptor?

I think that it would only take some minor mods for my '00 Banshee to run with the DS (keep in mind that I am just speculating based on weight-horsepower-and the 2-stroke's ability to pick up reasonable HP gains with low cash mods). My opinion on the Banshee against the yet to be released Raptor is the Banshee will need minor mods and pipes to run with the Raptor. The new machine will alway's be hyped up in the mag's, but in reality, sometimes things are a little different. When mine get's in i'll post how it stacks up with the stock Banshee.

First of all, nobody has tested the Raptor except Yamaha. They tested it against stock 400EX, ds650, and Banshee. They only tested for 100 and 200 yard drag races and they say the Raptor is faster. Wait until the machine is released to the real world and see how it compares. I am guessing that the 660 motor will not respond as well to hop ups as other machines because the YZ426 does not respond very well to them. Besides, when you get right down to it, cubic dollars always win.

I read the article and you are correct about the mods for the raptor. In yamaha's statement the 660 engine is highly modified from the factory, therefore additional mods will do little to increase H.P. which is in contrast to the mild stock motor of the DS. As for the banshee, it will probably still be the fastest with least money.
Oh by the way, the only way to beat cubic inch is cubic dollars theory doesn't quite apply to two stroke VS four stroke if you know what I mean
