Default valve adjustment question.

Well, as stated earlier. Your vavle clearence will tighted when the motor warms. A 2 thousands gap or less when the motor is cold will be fine. And will do as you say. But as the motor warms, you lose that clearence and stand a very, very good chance of having a valve that doesn't close all the way and then you can burn the valve and you will have a power loss. Adjust your valves to 4 or 5 thousands you'll be amazed at the diff. I say what I say...not from what i read on here, but what has happened to me with my DS. Default valve adjustment question.

Just out of curiousity has anyone on this board ever burned a valve, due to out of spec shims?

Default valve adjustment question.

With some good advice from other members here on the site, I checked the clearance on my valves about a month ago.
I bought my bike used, judging be the seals and dirt buildup, I'm going to assume my 01 had never had them checked before. Tore it down and to make a long story short, I had .003 compression on the valve at TDC. Aaarrgghhh............ that can't be good. I tore down more and the valves looked totally fine to me. Dimensionally in spec and no excessive build up on either face? maybe I just got lucky, or its not as critical as its made out to be? If your valve is on the low end of the clearance, I would check the valve anyways.
Good luck!
