the problem with car oil is that it has friction modifiers in the oil that will make your clutch slip. because the clutch that the ds uses is a wet clutch. the atv oil lacks these friction modifiers and detergents so they can be used ond the clutchs. I would use Amsoil 4-stroke oil thats what I race with on Pikes peak.

really only matter with synthetics... you can run car mineral oil in your quad all day long, and tons of people do, including myself on the first 50 hours of an engine....then i go synthetic.. with synthetics the supperior lubrication can be too much for you clutch to handle and it will slip... so if your going synthetic you should get motorycycle specific oil..... it will say right on the bottle, "designed to run with wet clutches"... but i know of lots of guys running mobil one car oil in there atvs to and dont suffer clutch slippin? but the ds is a torque monstor so it'd be more likely than the 400s
