nos question
#1
i was thinking about purchasing nos set-up for my ds...i asked a couple of builders in my area and thought that running nos with my 13.5 compression piston would be a bad idea. They seem to think i wouldnt be able to hold my motor together. Do any of you run nos with a high compression piston? any thought and opinions would be apprieciated.

Wow, tough question!!!! I would have to generally agree with the builder you have talked to. Sky high compression and N2O don't go well together. Also, the ideal shape of the piston is a flat top, not a big dome.
Now I know someone on here will say they have 14 zillion to 1 compression and they run a 500 fogger. It is just a matter of how many problems you want to deal with. I think you will have problems unless you only shoot a 10 or less shot.
Most people on here shoot over 50% (20/25HP) of the engine output. That's quite a bit for a stock engine. Now bump that compression up to 13.5 to 1 and shoot a 25 shot..........man, things can get ugly. Now I have no experience with squeezing on a rotax, but the %'s seem to work out about the same on any engine. Good luck with your decision.

Sandman, most NOS, NX, whatever, ratings are figured at a bottle pressure of 900 PSI if you go higher your leaning out the mix. I shot mine anywhere from 900 to 1100 and once by accident at about 1250 and let me tell you it ripped!!! Try to get your pressures at 900 or a tad higher and you'll always be a happy man.
As for running NOS on a high compression, you'll be just fine BUT you must run a high octane fuel, 110 or higher. Pluss go to a colder plug and that will help prevent predetonation. I wouldnt go too high on your shot, maybe 20 or so. One of the big mistakes people make with NOS is they just throw it on any bike and run. If you want to get into running high HP shots of NOS you have to build the quad for the NOS, not build the NOS for the bike.

i've only had a couple runs at proper pressure, they were very intense runs after that pressure was on the way down still very helpful. as far as a the difference of the lower compression 720 and higher i haven't seen a hugh difference the two i have run have been very close
