I did some racing on the 1/4 mile track a few years ago. They would only let me run the 1/8 mile because I had dirt tires. My best time was a 9.90 @ 69 MPH.
I looked for quite a while for drag or high speed tires. I still have not found anything and I work in the tire industry. My problem arises from my gearing. I have my bike geared to run a 22" rear tire. I could not find anything that tall. You can find trailer tires, but they are only 20 1/2" tall. No good for me !!!!

There are a few choices as far as tires are concerned. Most people use either American Racers or Mickey T. Jr dragster slicks. The ARs can be found in 18-20 in diameter and the M/Ts are in a 19.5 and one other size that slips my memory right now. I found some inexpensive TT style tires that I am using (or plan on...I'm waiting on parts). They are Duros. I only paid $110 for the pair, where either of the other two will cost you almost that a peice. I figured if these aren't too good I'm not out much for trying them. The can be bought in a 18 or 20 inch diameter as well.
I have mine mounted on Douglas .125s, which are pretty light weight. For some money you can get some custom wheels that are really light. Also Wicked makes some leight weight bead locks, but they are pretty price.

They also told me When I come back again that they would strong suggest a wheely bar. It is a whole bunch different taking off on pavement then dirt. I have seen a picture of a wheelie bar on the back of Forcefed's DS. It is a nice looking piece. I think Horsepower Research made it, you might want to give them a call if you want to do drags much.

i just started back asphalt drag racing. stage II and i'm running 8.80's at 74mph. with 22's and stock gearing.it's all about the first 60 ft. i'm turning a 1.9 that's pretty quick for no wheelie bar!just got a set of 19.0 mt's and they are light. also just built me a wheelie bar. hopefully some more people in my area will get interested. because we just don't have much sand drags around here.

I just bought a set of ARs, 10x10x20.5 in the super sticky D23 compound. If there is a lighter asphalt drag tire made, I'd be afraid to run it, these ARs are THIN. I plan to play at the local asphalt drags before Aledo. Not sure if I'll get a chance to run the 4 Snows before June, the closest dirt drags are 3 hours north of me. Using Douglas .125 wheels as soon as the UPS man delivers and building my own wheelie bar out of 6061 and heim joints.
Can anyone comment on the differences in chassis adjustment between asphalt and dirt drags assuming a groomed dirt track? I am building my wheelie bar to use the swingarm only and be adjustable from "wheel on the ground" to "wheel 6" inches off the ground". Is that enough adjustment? Thanks!!
