I agree. What the issues with higher than 14:1? Is piston reliability a problem?

I doubt there is piston reliability problem, just that to get that much compression it would take an even bigger dome which might come in contact with the head, I'm not sure on that one, it would also mean more rotating mass, even though not much. Somebody needs to try it. Might be able to accomplish close to 16:1 with the 14:1 piston and milling the head and also decking the cylinder, but then the whole piston hitting things might come into play... MrHP could fill you in on details better than I. I believe he said that the piston will accomodate a .425 cam (maybe .450) and larger stage3 valves. Using 2 stock head gaskets will give you a 14:1 and using 1 stock head gasket will give you a 16:1. Clay it up before starting. I've got one and will be installing when I get porting/valves done.

I too heard was told by MRHP that he is blueprinting a 16:1 piston. You may want to speak with him on that piston but I know it's in the works.
Just a sidenote question for you guys high comp piston guys , I'm really considering a 14:1 piston. What octane is recommended for something like that? A buddy of mine I talked to who works at Ford said it's way too high to be reliable. Would a new rod be put into place or just stick with a 12:5.1 piston?
