Default oil pressure sensor

I think my oil pressure sensor is bad. my dash light is on. if unplugged the light is off. so, i am assuming that the circuit gets grounded when pressure is to low? what pressure sensors and gauges will work in this fitting? if I remove the sensor and crank the engine a little, oil comes out sensor bad. right?

Mine did the same thing. I ordered a new one from the dealer, but couldn't wait for it to come in to go riding. I was positive I had oil pressure, so I unplugged it ( just like any other bike that doesn't have a sender). Rode for a while decided to plug it in, and it has worked ever since. Now I have a spare sender in my tool box.

bench tested the sensor at work tonight. switch opens at aprox. 5psi. and has aprox. 150ohms of resistents with no pressure. seems that may be in spec. wish I knew what factory specs where. I geuss I better check my oil presure with a mechanical gauge. not sure what to think now.

They go out very easy when water gets into them. I have changed mine 4 times on my 04. I always keep 2 or 3 extra's in the tool box.

i got tired of mine going out and then i got worried that it might not work if i did lose pressure. i went to auto zone and bought a small gauge set and installed the oil pressure gauge where the tack usually mounts so i can actually see my oil pressure. the gauge comes with 1/8" plastic tubing but i used 1/8 stainless steal tubing insyead so there would be no chance of it rubing or getting a hole melted in it.

so, just some brake line tube? did you just bend it by hand to where you needed it to be? I found a small gauge that I like. I was thinking maybe some copper tube. now the gears are turning!

I had a mechanical oil pressure gauge, but a gauge failure had me covered in oil doing a trail side repare. I am now using an eletric gauge and it works well. Oil pressure for the DS (qouting manual) 7psi minimum @ idle, 44psi @ 6000rpm, Maximum oil pressure is 87psi. I mounted the gauge in a pod off the dash support bar on the right side of the dash. Works every well, and dosen't move around.
