Default free tach, will it work?

OK here's the deal.
My brother had an autometer sport comp tach left over from his old car. It's the 3 5/8 size, 10K rpm.
It's looks alot like the ones on the BAJA DS , yet not exactly. It's wires are cut short, yet they are the same red, green, white, black wires found on all tachs.

So can anyone explain the secret to hookng it up on my DS ?
1st, How can I make it read my 1 cyl motor like the factory tach does?
2nd, How do I connect it? Does the factory tach have to be spliced in also, or is it a snap connect type deal?
3rd, How does it mount if the dash? Like what holds it in the hole?

Thanks guys.
Just trying to make use of a free tach.

the wires they mount to the coil ground and battey, there is a rubber ring that holds the tach in the dash, i might have a extra one if you get it to work. the getting it to work might be the hard part.
