Do I really need 60% stiffer springs?
#1
Hi guys
I was wondering if I really need the 60% stiffer springs. I dont ride all that hard, the occasional drag race on the highway and some trail riding and gravel pit racing. My clutch started slipping after I put the hmf pipe and the K&N filter on it. the bike does have 4000+ miles on it now so I guess something is going to wear out. But I was just wondering If I need that stiff of spring. Any help would be great thanks to all.

I wouldn't, to me 40% is about right. The 60% have been known to cause the actuator shaft to strip teeth plus it has a very heavy clutch pull. The best set up is a Barnett clutch pack + the 40% stiffer springs.

Talking strictly bolt-on modes I would think rider wieght would really come into play here as well. Lighter riders under 190lbs could probably get away with 40% or alternating 60% with stock. Whereas some of the heavier guys may require 60% all the way around.
I'm getting ready to change my springs but don't really want the pull of the 60%. I have felt them on other bikes and don't care for the pull. I weight 185lbs and think I would be fine with the 40%.

I use the Barnett 9 disk system, with the Barnett springs. Thier springs are not much stiffer than stock. I havent had my clutch slip since.

Mine started slipping at less than 10hrs of ride time. Just as soon as I did the mrhp46, the end cap and ported intake the clutches started slipping. I went with the 60%, the pull doesnt bother me, but wish I had gone ahead and gotten the barnett setup like a couple of people on here told me I should. When I have everything apart I will do the barnett.
