Do I really need 60% stiffer springs?

The actuator is the little splined piece that sticks out of the center of the clutch basket when you pull the side cover off. It is about 1.25 inches long and about .5 inches in diameter. I have had three break so far and the whole grease thing is correct.

If you guys are slipping your clutches and tossing in springs, are you doing anything with the plates and fibers?
Short story: If your clutch is in need of replacing or resurfacing, or if your are running the wrong type of oil, springs alone may not do much good for you.
Long story: My SP600 has had both stiffer springs and new fibers, and still dosent hold to my liking. When i did my DS clutch I was told by ron woods racing to recondition my steels and fibers when changing to there +40% springs. With proper surface prep on the clutch, the 40% springs, and a proper Motor oil (i run 10w40 castrol GTX).. The ds cluctch NOW holds tight and i havnt noticed any slipping anymore. On a mild sand (deep heavy sand) hill at Dyracuse MX track in wisconsin, in 5th gear the motor dogs a bit at 3500, but in 4th it rips pretty darn good but dosent slip at all when shifting on the hill. I go 190 Lbs, open endcap, CDI box, stock carb.
I was told to cross hatch sandpaper my plates and fibers on a sheet of 320 grit sand paper laid flat on a sheet of glass. (without the flat glass, you will only do harm) Dont take much at all off the fibers!. just break the glaze. Mine were fairlly burnt, or uneven, so i took off a few thousandths of an inch. But as little as possable!.
My steels were really bad. I ended up wet sanding for a few hours to take the outter and inner ring down to where they were completly flat. Well worth the time. If you are slipping, for some time, (2 mild 1 hour rides for me) you may want to pick up new steels and save the time from sanding.
I got my DS used, and i suspect the clucth was pretty well shot before i got it. About $20 bucks for 40% springs and some resurfacing, And i love it. I think the 40% springs clutch pull is a tad stiff for Mx track as you shift quite a bit whan you ride hard and fast, but you dont really notice it over the fun you are having unless you stop to think about it.
Measure the pack height and make sure its within the service limmit in teh manual. Otherwise you will need new ones. Mine were well within even after removing the uneven high spots.
I cant wait till i pull the clutch on the SP600 and resurface it now that i am running a clutch friendly oil and know how to do a proper poor mans clutch resurfacing.
