Default Frame Cracks

I was looking over my quad today and found a few cracks on the frame. They are behind the footpegs on the main gusset. Also the frame is cracked right in the middle of the bottom tube on the left side. Am I the only one who has this problem, or is it more common than I think. I spend all of my time on tracks. I usually only jump 40-60 foot jumps. I have good suspension, but I do weigh 300 lbs. The quad has about 600 hours on it already. Also, what is the best way to fix them? Is a gusset plate needed, or just TIG weld the crack back shut?

Thanks

Justin

Thanks, I'll weld them up and see about a new swingarm too. It is cracked bad. That is the second one I have ruined already.

I would use the stock one, but I was bottoming it out so hard that I blew the lower seal out. The snubber is almost gone. This new shock is way to stiff, but I can still jump hard enough to make it hit the snubber, but not really bottom hard. I think I will just order a new spring, but leave the valving alone. The spring is just too hard. The fronts are set up for a 240-275 lb rider for trails, and they bottom out all the time. if I overshoot a 50ft. double, it feels like the front end is exploding under me. I like the softness of them, but I think that I will have the valving stiffer, but leave the springs alone. Does this make sense? Maybe a good idea???

Well it sounds like you have two options

1. Weld Crack and stay with current shocks.

2. Weld Crack and get better shocks set up for your weight and riding style.

IMHO, option 2 will be the SAFER option in the long run. If you keep bottoming the shocks it only time that will keep you from a bad spill. Good shock set up for your wieght will ride, land, handle better with out hurting you or your quad.

Best money I've ever spent on a Quad. PEP Triple rates shocks. Now I can go higher further and still land softly. BYW I'm in the 250LBs range.
