Bowl and "gold cap" screws??
#11
i took the screws out of my X on the carb while still connected, just loosened the hose clamps and turned it upside down and used some needle nose vice grips. Took less than 5 minutes but i was prepared since i had had 3 previous DS's. And of course i already had some allen's ready to go. I was out at the dunes when i did this too.

I had the same problem and the best way that I found (easiest) to get them out with out being too much of a pain in the a@@ was to use a small dremel tool with a cut off wheel to make slots in the screw heads turning them into flat head screws (as you can torque them more without rounding them off) and made them just large enouch for a good sized flat head. Once this is done they come right out. Then you can replace them with a stronger screw. Good Luck.

Thanks everyone for the great advice on getting out those stubborn screws. I went ahean and took the carb all the way off..and used a good set of vise-grips and eventually got them to break loose. Got her all re-jetted with the new end cap installed. She started right up, but the new found DB's didn't alow me to run it up the street for a tuning run..man that thing is loud now!
Thanks Again..Dingo

You guys are nuts! I've done this twice, and drilling the heads off of the screws takes much, much less time & effort. The first time I removed them I used the dremel / slotted screw driver method - what a pain (but it worked!) The second time I drilled them ount and it was sooooooo easy.
