Tyrespinner is right. A DS650 Baja X will only do around 78mph with the stock gearing because the rev limiter shuts it down. Go up to a 17T front sprocket or down 2 teeth in the rear and you can achieve 82mph and still hit the rev limiter in 5th gear.

The police radar is'nt 100% truth, the police itself said that these radars are 3+- mph most of the time...
But again...
I can bet on 100$ that my ds (01 model with the LOWEST rev from all the other models, less 200 rpm then 02 and on)
goes 80 mph or even MORE ... FULL STOCK but 22 viper tires on the rear and some other 22 on the front...

I ride with a guy with a Baja X with a K&N, Yoshi pipe, 22" tires, No lid and Dynojet kit. The GPS reads out a max speed of 77 miles per hour. This bike kills a stock DS or Baja X, so there is no way in hell a stocker will do more than 80 miles per hour. Most likely only 73 to 74 miles max. My friend with a DS with a Ron woods pipe, modified airbox intakes and K&N, and stock 20" tires hit rev limiter at about 75 miles per hour.
All of this tested with 3 different GPS systems on flat paved roads. We have done these top speed test lots of times and there is no way a stock DS or X will come close to 80 let alone 85 miles per hour.

A GPS is the most accurate way to get actual speed.
No one has mentioned what type of terrain they are on when getting these numbers. I know in sand my top speed is less then in dirt. Sand just has too much drag. Dirt probably has some drag too when compared to a completely smooth paved road. Disputing + or - a few mph could easily be accounted for by wind or slope of the road.
