2001 DS650 no spark
New to me 2001 DS650.
Have had it a week or so, really like it so far.
Ran great last time I rode it.
Today, 2 days later....no start.
Checked fuel, drained bowl, etc.
Not a fuel problem.
Pulled plugs, checked for spark.
None on either one.
Checked fuses under seat - OK.
Checked connections on voltage regulator (above rear axle).
Found red and black wires were rubbed through.
Taped them up.
Removed kill switch and checked it out.
Can't find any pulled connectors, etc anywhere in wiring harness.
Still no spark.
Manual is on the way (should have been here by now )
Any ideas?
What gets me is it happened while it was just sitting in the garage, so sudden failure while running.....
Voltage regulator?
Any way to test?
I'm handy with a meter

Unit cranks, just no spark.
I pulled the switch from the clutch lever and checked it for function.
Pulled the 2 bullet connectors apart and cranked.
No spark.
Jumped connectors together (engine side) and cranked.
No spark.
Both coils have the wire connected to the slip on terminal located on the out board side of the coils.
Using a digital meter. From these terminals I get 0 volts key on, while cranking it looks like voltage is hitting coils but the spike is too quick to register on a digital meter ...it's like .4Volts, but hits a spike to 12 for an instant when starter switch is released.

I ordered a manual the day after I got it, but still waiting on deliverly.
The dealers are normally a last resort for me. I am a pretty good wrench and can normally diagnose and repair most things, but without a shop manual to help out on this I'm pretty much just going over the basics and using guesswork.

Still don't have my freaking manual (evidently shipped from Venus)
BUT>>>>>>>>>>
I scored photocopies of the pertinant shop manual pages from a really friendly local dealer I had overlooked....
I'd be more than happy to send copies to you (email as an attachment, fax, or snail mail) to help you diagnose your problem.
Looks like mine is the ignition trigger coil, not the CDI box. WOHOO~~~~
He says the CDI's almost NEVER burn out......99.9% of the time is something else. Been a Bomb dealer a really long time.
Anyway, let me know.
