According to the repair manual the float height is 10mm plus or minus .5mm or .39" +/- .02"
It says with carb upside down to measure the height between bowl seat and the top edge of the float arm.
I uploaded the info on the carb. It's in the adobe format. pdf it's also about 1.7 megs

I found that not all floats work 100% exactly the same. I see it especially with raptors that have two floats. You can set the floats exactly the same, but if you check the level of the fuel inside the float with a clear tube, they do not always provide you with the same level.
The Yamaha Grizzly uses the exact same carb as the DS.
The float level needs to be checked with a clear tube. Place a clear plastic tube onto the drain plug fitting. It needs to be a foot long and fit the little drain fitting well. You can get this plastic tube from any spare shop or even a pet shop where they sell pipes for fish tanks. After fitting the clear tune, push the open end above the carb and hold it there. With the fuel supply open, open the drain plug screw so that fuel flow out of the carb float bowl into the little pipe. When the fuel stop flowing, p[lace the tube against the carb float bowl and see where the fuel level is. Do no let the open end of the pipe go below the top of the carb. You must not let fuel flow out of the pipe, it is purely to tell you the level of the fuel. The fuel level should be 4.5mm above the split where the fuel bowl connect to the carb. IF you have it reading right, close the drain plug screw and remove the pipe.
If you get it set to this level you know it is 100% correct.

If you are noticing the fuel in the hose after you have been riding and are trying to stop that, then you are beating your head against the wall.
Reason being, as you ride, the fuel in the bowl sloshes around and bounces the float up and down causing it to allow extra fuel into the bowl which will eventually make its way out the overflowand into the hose. This is most likely what you are noticing and really no way to stop it.
