Default DS650 Verses the 450R and 450YFZ

I have raced both. I run a Lectron 46hv, HPR end cap, vortex cdi, k&n filter, 15/40 gears, boondockers nitrous setup. If they have either the hrc for the honda, or pipe filter and cam mod for the yfz, they usually will pull me on a long hill. Short hills they cant catch me, I will beat all of the line. Similar equipped bikes, same mods, all with nitrous, again depends on hill, but most I will beat easily, there is one that seems to pull me on the longest of runs, talk to cpcpatriot, he has a running yfz.

Default DS650 Verses the 450R and 450YFZ

My Stage III buddy was racing a milding modded 450R in the sand. The 450R had a very light rider on it (he looked about 150lbs) and the R had a different cam profile and exhaust.

It was in loose terrain almost sandy like and the DS had v paddles while the honda didn't.

The Stage III beat it.. but sad to say not by much. I also dragged it with it's original owner but I wasn't beating him by much either, until I let off the gas (it got bumpy and I didn't want to risk a roll over).

At the track there was about 60' flat where everyone was drag racing. I raced several times against a slew of Raptors, YFZ, 450Rs and even my Stage III buddy. I took the holeshot everytime and spanked them all (this was one had good hard packed dirt). Perhaps if it was longer the outcome would have been different.

Stock YFZ except for spark arrestor removed from stock exhaust, airbox lid removed, and main jet six sizes bigger than stock, running on 20" eight paddle Haulers.

vs

Stock '05 DS650, running on 22" nine paddle Rippers.

.
.
.

YFZ wins by an average of 50 feet in 600 foot long drag races.

Outerlimit...the mods done on that YFZ..S/A removed, lid off and jetted must make a big difference over stock. Reason I say this is that on an about 600' run, before my end cap mod (all Stock)..I would beat my buddy's stock YFZ in a long run by 20 plus feet. It would be a catch up type win as he would get me thru 3rd gear. But in 4th I would catch him and then pass him in 5th.

If thats true..I'm in trouble then as he's getting ready to pipe/jet his YFZ...

Those few "free" mods did make a big difference with my kids YFZ. I would suspect that any exhaust/airbox mod that lets you go up by six jet sizes has made a big difference. I also found it interesting that when we put an HMF full system on my kids YFZ just yesterday that we did not have to change jetting at all. The HMF full system pulls a little harder on the bottom end, and in the mid-range, but feels about the same on top as the prior mods did. So if someone is on a budget, removing the spark arrestor and airbox lid and rejetting is almost as good as a full exhaust on a YFZ, and the full exhaust is really LOUD compared to an uncorked stock exhaust. I haven't said anything to my son about this, but I cannot help but smile at the lack of a big improvement from the HMF full system on his YFZ, because my HMF slip on really woke up my DS after some rejetting to go with it. We have not yet had a chance to drag race them again now that both have HMF exhaust on them, but something tells me the results will be closer.

Drag racing is fun, and addictive, and I've beat Raptors, YFZs, whatever, and also lost to the same model of machines. I'm not sure it is a very interesting result since in the end, the guy who spent the most money will win the drag race. If I had an extra few Gs to drop into my DSs I could make them lightning quick, and I could beat all of the guys running close to stock, but what does that do? Just means I spent more cash & I guess I'd get a thrill out of running that fast though.

For me, it's more about how fast I can make my machine go, rather than who I can beat since If you beat some guy this weekend, if he goes out and spends a couple of grand he will beat you next weekend.

We all know the spending game never ends!

I've been lucking so far. I've raced 2 stock yammy 450's & one stock 450R. I'm 3-0. The thing is those bikes are right there. It's very close & I feel lucky to win. Haven't raced one in the sand yet though.
