this is out of the Mikuni manuel for the Pilot setting. engine at normal tempeture.
"with Idle near 1000 rpm adjust the pilot-air screw in slowly till untill the idle either slowes or becomes irregular, then begin turning the air screw out until the engin again slowes or begins to Idle irregularly. Count the number of turns betwen the two positions. set the air screw mid way between the two.
NOTE
1. IF BEST IDLE IS ACHIEVED WITH THE AIR SCREW LESS THAN ONE turn out, the pilot is too small and should be exchanged for a larger one.
2.if the engine speed does not slow after two- and one half turns out, the pilot is too large and should be exchanged for a smaller one."
hope this helps ( unless you all ready did this) this is with the pump activated but the principal should still fit.
if all fails, its worth a try
