Big bore 400EX owners???
I know a few of you ds guys also have big bore 400ex's, i'm thinking about buying a 400ex and then doing a big bore kit, or buying a frame and then build up with using a xr600-650 or maybe even ds motor. Are you guys happy with the new power on the big bore ex's? How much did it cost? Are you still on pump gas? how does it compare you your ds? I trust you guys here alot more for honest opinions.

It will cost you around $2500-3000 to do a 465EX. That about what I have in mine. 92mm 14:1 piston, 463/9i cams, hd valve springs, 1mm larger valves, Carrillo rod, FCR41, hd cam chain, X-6 Shorty, port. It runs ok but won't beat the Stage 2.5 Baja. I know there are some strong running EX's out there but to be honest, you would be better off throwing your money at your DS. Did I mention that I have a 465EX taking up space in my garage.

Big bore 400EX owners???
well i'm looking for a second quad, and 400's are pretty cheap, so thats why i'm not sure if i just wanted to build up a stock motor, or use a whole different motor(which would require much more work but then i could still run on cheap gas and have lots of power), 400's handle nice but they are just very underpowered, like my buddies will be pinned in 5th and i'll b just cruising at like 5000rpm
sandman-how much did your 440 stroker set you back?

Frist a properly built 440 ex will hang with the best of the ds's out there and are very dependale. And a sparks 465 is hard to beat on anything. You can buy a brand new 400 ex and for about 1000 over what a new ds cost. You can do the suspension motor and all on the 400ex making it untochable by half the ds's out there. I love the ds but the 400ex is still the most bang for the buck!!!!!

My son is running a 416, I was very impressed for the cost what this bike will do. It's not a Big Bore Just a piston kit and than added a Stag 2 HotCam. For the Shop to do it was about $600 +-. It's not really that complicated and easialy can be done yourself if you are thinking of cost savings. Honda's are great that the top end work can be done in the bike quickly.
After watching the 416 out perform many 440's on the sand I wounder if the big bores are worth the cost. Now that's not to say a properly setup 440 or larger, along with all the costly extras won't beat the 416, but not many have so far that I have seen.
This is Not a DS, but it will hold it own against a stock one.
Piston Kit $110
Cylinder Machine work $60
Cam $120
Gaskets $30
Time about 5-6 hrs
