Default DS650 Stock Mikuni - Jetting FAQ?

I've run a search through the Bombardier forum for jetting information on the stock DS650 carb. There are many threads which discuss bits and pieces of jetting for various applications.

Does anyone know where I could find information regarding a "how-to jetting guide" for the stock DS carb? I need "Stock DS650 Jetting for Dummies" book. Maybe I need to lay down the C-Note for the PDF manual.

I'm thinking of purchasing the HMF slip-on and need to know what I need to do to re-jet. Do I have to pull the entire carb off the machine? There are jets, jets and more jets (i.e. "main jet", "needle jet", "pilot jet", etc.)? I have no clue what each of these mean. In addition, I've read about clip position and have no idea what this means.

I've been to the Mikuni website and have a basic PDF diagram of the HSR42. If someone could point me to some information, I'd appreciate it.

Default DS650 Stock Mikuni - Jetting FAQ?

people like hightower are good to talk to about carbs but since there isn't any response to this. the piolt jet is for 0 to 1/8 throttle if it is hard to start in the cold try a size larger. neddle jet is for the middle if you look at it you will see it tapers, lowering it allows less fuel, and raising it allows more, main jets are numbered and seems stock is 165, with a pipe seems most use a 170 to a 180, main with the fourstrokes you don't want a dark plug and going to big on the main jet will give you a darker plug. this is a very basic explanation, there were some pretty good posts about 2 years ago on this. but if you haven't jetted yet go get some 4mm stainless aleen screws for the bowl on the bottom of the carb, that will make jetting a lot easier.

SandMan: Thanks for the reply. I remember seeing information regarding the replacement of the four Phillips screws. I'll take that to the bank.

When jetting for the HMF slip-on, do I just replace the "main" jet or do I have to mess with the others too?

I live at 6000 ft altitude, and when I rejetted for an HMF slip on I had to go one step richer on the needle, but found that the best performance came from running a stock sized main jet. So at the altitude you are at in Michigan, you should definitely go richer on the needle, and probably also go richer on the main jet.
