1/4 mile drag
#11
That's closer to the gearing calculator. It says
14/40 with 22" tires @ 7900 rpms = 74.5 mph
15/40 with 22" tires @ 7900 rpms = 79.8 mph
16/40 with 22" tires @ 7900 rpms = 85.1 mph
Fastest I've had mine was supposedly 90.9 mph. I run 15/40 with 22" Holeshot XCT's and was cranking 9,000 rpms. I measured my tire heigth and they were only 21" but I'm sure they got taller at that speed. Gonna try 16/40 soon.

No offense, but I think its a waste of time to race 1/4 mile on quads not set up to race 1/4 mile. Does that make sence? You will most likely be topped out around the 1/8 mile mark, then just take a leasurly ride the rest of the way. I agree with these other folks in " just go out to have fun". If it were 1/8 mile drags, that would be more competitive.
On a side note, I wouldnt have the jewels to set my quad up to pull all the way thru 1/4 mile. Ive been clocked at 69 in 300 feet on dirt. I couldnt imagine hitting a cool 110 (if geared properly) in a 1/4 on a quad set up for trails. Not that I could hit 110, but I wouldnt want to.
It does sound like alot of fun. Enjoy,
Gary

the only way we can run our quads on the 1/4 mile is with non dirt tires ( flat track smoothies) full leathers and IHRA rules say only 1/8 mile. they are now letting the snowmobiles ( friend of mine runs mid 9's with his v-max) run against motorcycles the full 1/4 mile but no quads yet. the short wheel base of a quad on black top @ 100mph+ might make things exciting!!!!

dune,
you can run the 15/40 in the 1/4.you should be around mid 15's.you wouldn't top out in the 1/8 even with a 15/42 wich is what you can run with the stock chain, but the 42r will hit the guard.a carb, pipe and cdi will get you in the 14's in the 1/4 at about 81 with 20'' .we got slower with 22'' because of the weight.
this is what mine did,so just jet right and practice on the light for reaction times.i use to use 2 huge platic tie straps from home depot on each shock on the front and back.i never had one break.i cut my back fenders, and removed the huge heal guards for more air and it helped a good bit.
