I had a new piston put in with nitrous rings. When I took the starter off I accidently took it apart. I got it back together and put it back on. Now when I try and start it, it turns over maybee two seconds and then gets really weak. the battery was fairly new but I grabbed a brand new one and charged it up. It did the same thing. The piston is 10.5/1 compression. It also makes a kickback type sound fairly often. Once I get it started one time and warmed up it does fairly well but still seems to turn over slowly. I can ride all day and let it sit overnight and I can't get it started. If I hook a charger up It will start up but still does not seem to turn over easily. Options???1. starter did not get together properly or I broke something doing it? 2. nitrous rings cause more friction when cold combined with increased compression 3. Decompression mechanism not working properly?? I really do not think it is the battery. Both batteries did the same thing. ANY IDEAS??

I have another DS motor I'm rebuilding here, and to make a long story short, I feel it's the starter. I had the starter off, and went to pick it up one day or whatever, the gold cover slid off, and there were the 4 ?magnetic pickups? with wires runnin to em. They were a bitch to get back in place and get the cover on, I think it's that thats causing your problem. Maybe maybe not. Get back to us.

Ill send em out tommorrow. Address??? I figured it was something like the shocks. Back to the stockers I guess. I don't want to bring it to the bomb shop. I want to figure it out myself if possible. The shop already said they did not think it was the starter. They don't work on a lot of DS's.

Hmmm. . .
Haven't had this one. . . knock on wood.
Can compression build if the de-compressor isn't working? Can you pull a plug and crank it over for a little bit and see how tough it is to crank. Will it crank more than a few times now? At least if it doesn't turn over with the plug out we pretty much know its the starter.
Make sure all the electrical connections are still good.
Keep us informed.
