TRX430 - Thank you for sidestepping the barbs sent your way in this forum. Class act.

Here's a question I wonder about: Why did the major quad manufacturers get sued over a TRX250R or an LT250 and not a CR250R or an RM250R? The CR250R for example is much harder to control than a TRX250R. Yet, they kept making the CRs throughout the 80s and 90s while they ceased production on the quads. Surely anyone could sue over the dirtbikes as easily as the quads....

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,

Brian.

Did you ay 1986 marked the beginning of the end for sport quads? IF that is the case, then in reality, 1985 was the beginning of teh end for high-perf quads!! Remember, 1985, one year prior, was the FIRST year of the quad known as High performance, starting with the 1985 Suzuki LT 250 R. If anything, 1986-1989 was the very heydey of high performance fourwheelers. We had the tecate4, the 250 r, the lt 250 r, the LT 500 R Quadzilla, and the Yamaha BAnshee. The LT 250 R carried on through 92, with the Banshee being the only high-performance choice out on the market until recently.

1986 would be a great place to start over again!!

Yeaa, And lets hope it all doesn't end in 2002.1986 was Honda,s counter to the Suzuki wasen't it.

bisherwood--That is a good question,But bikes have been around forever and quads were new at the time.I would guess lack of acceptence would make them a good target.

About the dune sport 650,Is it only liquid cooled.Or is it fan assisited liquid cooled?Any motor will heat up without air flowing through the rad or air fins. Can it stand idle for more than 5 minuts?Or will it heat up?

In reply to the post of why ATV's were picked on, my take on this is,

A big 250~500 class dirtbike is pretty intimidating to most, they demand respect.
An atv is less intimidating and people think they can ride like an expert, it seems easier to ride and is easier to push it a little harder without experience.

People can put small children on a large atv, and with a little instruction, that small child can easily ride that machine, I can't count the number of times I have seen 6~7 year olds riding 250R's and other hi-po bikes. When was the last time you saw a 5~10 year old kid on a YZ or CR250 or 500?

86ATC250R hit the nail on the head. My son will jump on any quad I let him. He doesn't even want a ride on my 380 SX KTM. The bikes are much harder to control and take a greater skill level just to ride. Most people are intimidated enough they get off before they get in serious trouble.
I think High Performance Snowmobiles would compare closer.
I agree 430EX, you pointed out some potential flaws. Bombardier does seem to be targeting the dune/high perfromance trail rider more than the MX track. If Husaberg can build a 600 that weighs 413lbs (according to the magazines) it would seem Bombardier could make this Quad lighter too. Maybe they have more in the works.
I also agree with Bisherwood, you didn't stoop to the level of some. Why some people feel a need to get nasty when they disagree with another is beyond me.
Scott.

The Lawsuits: The Lawsuits leading to the demise of the sport quad catagory is just another example of how Stupid a majority of Americans are. You don't put a beginner on a machine designed for the heavily experienced, you don't put a 16 year old behind the wheel of a 400 hp car do ya?? How many times in the past year have you heard about the 16 year old who's parents bought him a brand new Camaro Z28 and he killed himself and his friends in it?? And well chevy keeps making Camaro's though, you have to wonder does that have anything to do with them being an american company??

So anyhow if we get lucky enough to return to the hayday of the QuadRacer's and the 250R's, I think it would be a welcomed return. I dono about the rest of you but my Quadracer and my 250r are starting to look awfully tired.

If they start making real quads again lets just hope that we killed enough of the morons the first time to avoid more lawsuits, and going back to a market driven by hunting vehicles, and utility bikes.

One more thing: I'd like to address the popular delusion that a 400EX is a real bike. Basically anyone could tell you that if Honda made a Quad and tried to come off as it being the next 250R they would sell a million of them, and that they did. Well after owning both I can tell you that the 400EX is a poor overpriced imitation of a 250R. Everyone seems to want this bike to be a 250R seems to me they sold out to Honda.

The DS650: Lets all hope it is everything we wish it was otherwise we'll be stuck with the 400EX's and the Banshee (Which is a nice bike) But with no competition how are we gonna get anything beyond the Banshee??

AZA....

Still Looking for the return of the original, the start of it all, the LT250R..

Wait just a second. How can you scale them down to the same size and have them matchup?? If I recall the DS650 has a wider stance then the 400EX. Hm sounds to me you reduced the DS a little extra. If you reduced them to the same size it would be just like comparing the orgininal picks. Not to mention this is a dumb idea anyhow being you don't know the distance from which the picture was taken. I'm willing to bet you don't have anything in the pictures to scale off of like an identical object in both pictures therefore giving you something to scale from??

Oh well just a thought,

Aza...

Just wanted to pass alon some info. The reason atv's are considered so much more dangerous than motorcycles is due to the weight. Motorcycles have accidents more often however atv's have more serious accidents when they occur. Think of hill climbing. When you loose it on an atv you have to get away from it or your in serious trouble. With a motorcycle you can just lay it over and avoid a tumble. Also people treat bikes with more respect than atv's.
