The cam chain tensionor is located on the cylinder, left side. Its towards the top. Its inside the motor and is accessed by removing a bolt facing towards the rear of the quad near the carb. You can tell its condition by removing the bolt, pulling out the tensionor, and see if it still has spring in it when you press in on both ends. If its collapsed, and not springy, thats your problem.

I'm worried about my ds...
Howdy,
Hey I have the same problem with noise. Was riding in Baja, Mex. last week and the quad made a funny noise and died as I was letting the clutch out from a stop. Started back up no problem, but ticks now. Pulled the oil filter cover off and had some shavings. Took the clutch cover off and everything seemed fine. Checked chain tensioner and all seemed OK. The tensioner pushes in OK, but I need to pull up on the cam chain quite a bit to get it to come back out. How easy should the tensioner move back and forth in the hole? I assume it is oil pressure driven. I would assume that since the tensioner is metal against plastic that it should not wear out, but I am fairly new to the Rotax biz.
Any help would be appreciated.

Well, spoke to local Bomb dealer and they know less about the ds than I do. Chain tensioner was mashed all the way in. Put it in a vise and pulled the end with pliers and almost shot my eye out with the end piece. Be carefull if anyone tries the same.
Ordered the part and hopefully will fix.
PS. Mine only makes the noise at an idle and it is pronounced at cold startup.
