Default Which carb?? Again!!

I know this is a topic that has been beat to death, but I'm looking for fresh views on the subject. I'm going to be in the market for a new carb. Of course its down to between the TM45 and 46HV Lectron.

My current mods on my 2000 DS are: K&N, Mod Quad end cap, ported intake- (home job bought on ebay), cdi.

I live in Ohio and do trail ride, but still love to drag race when-ever possible..(Those piped YFZ's are tough!) We go to Silver Lake sand dunes 3-4 times a year. I want to be able to keep my airbox, but lid off is OK.

My concerns about each:

Lectron-I hear of throttle stuck shut problem. Also want to keep the torque and comfort for tight woods riding. Also alittle pricey.

TM45-Not as much gain as the Lectron, stiff throttle pull and hard to tune..I know Hightower has all the secrets..but I am just an average Joe!

Any advice on either would be great.

I went through this awhile back and decided to stay stock. If I went to the sand I would go 46hv lectron to drag for sure.

I went with the lectron 46HV with good results. My brother liked my results but didn't have the money for the 46HV so he went with the 44 Lectron. As soon as (week or two) I go with the 730 kit, I'll go with the 48HV & my brother will take my 46HV. I can't answer for the TM45, I've never had one but hear hightower can get the pull good with results. I'm a fan of the Mr.HP lectron & can't comment on what I haven't run. I hope this helps alittle.

It's hard for me to reply on that. I have not riddin his bike with the 44 lectron & he rode mine with the 46hv stock. I went with the HP Research stage 3 & he got the lectron 44, so no head to head with the carbs. Maybe he will see this & reply with his thoughts. I know he is happy with the 44 lectron on his stock DS with ported intake & billet end cap. I'm also running the billet end cap trail riding (stage 3) & drag pipe while drag racing with good results.

both carbs are a big improvement over stock carb. the lectron setup is more expensive with a little more power..

Ill vouch for the TM45, its really no harder to jet than the stocker IMO. your main components a main, piolt , needle , the pumper is a plus to have . the only hassel was the pumper spring which was ezly fixed just took a few. great power increase over stocker, Idels well, carbs cleanly. if you have any other questions please ask.

I love my 46. I ordered it from HPR the day after I got my ds and it has surpassed my expectations. I trail ride 99.3% of the time and highly recomend it. It pulls hard all the way around. Do IT. You will like it.
