Default Compression ratios

I have a couple of questions I hope you guys can answer.

First- What octane must I run minimum for a 12-1 compression piston? I'm in Alberta Canada, so it's colder up here, evelation about 2300 feet.

Second- for our type of riding, we may run out of gas here or there, and use someone elses (say a farmer or whatever) or have to fill up in some small town. We depart from home, and quad everywhere, not usually able to haul fuel. This being said, what kind of power gains can I expect from a 14/15-1 compression piston over a 11.5-1 piston? I told you the riding we do to help in the decision of weather or not it would be worth going for the extra compression thus resulting in a change of riding habits.

Hopefully I have given enough information to help you help me decide.

Thanks for the help.

What is the highest pump gas you have? Here in the states it usually ranges from 91 to 93 octane

1. I think you would be pushing it running a 12:1 on 93 octane.

2. I have never seen any hard numbers when comparing compression ratios. It just seems that everyone agrees that the higher the compression the more power. It would be interesting to see two identical motors, the only difference being compression ratios. How much of a difference are we really talking?

With your riding style, having to stop for gas at random places, I think you would be best off building your motor to run on the fuel you have available. To me it wouldn't make much sense to have an engine that is a little faster, but I can only ride it 1/2 as much due to fuel availability.

It's not that we "don't" have the fuel availability it's that it's easier the way we do it. We could haul fuel if we wanted to, or load up and drive to where we wanna ride, I just wanna know if the performance gains from the higher compression would be worth the hassle? It's always better to have a little faster.....

The question to be answered is, How much power will I gain if I go from 11:1 to 14:1?

I have never been able to get a straight answer on this.

And if that can't be answered, then the question is How much bigger will my smile be? lol
