I'm beginning to think the Y2K bug has hit here early.

I bought a 2000 Bombardier Traxter, with winch installed, on September 15.

With less than 20 miles on the odometer, it died on September 18.

Since the 20th of September, it's been at MR Motorcycle and Marine in Asheville, NC, and still isn't running.

I'm afraid they're clueless as to the source of the problem.

I spent over $7200 on this machine, and have gotten practically no use at all out of it.

I'd appreciate any ideas you might have.

Thanks in advance,

The Traxter just stopped.

There was an odor of burning wiring, and a bit of smoke came from beneath the steering head.

I checked fuses, and the MPEM fuse was blown, so I replaced it, and the replacement blew.

The starter won't turn over, and none of the electric components other than the power outlet on the steering head are operative.

He said, "Looks like the MPM is blown."

jdw,

Sounds to me like a major league short - not knowing what a "MPM" is... Good Luck!

Hi John,

WOW! Sorry to hear about that. I also recently purchased a 2000 Traxter - and haven't had any problems. The 1 problem I had was a Transmission shift problem - but took that to the dealer and walla it's been fine since.

I would love to hear what happens. This has been a great machine for me.

I'm sure Bomb will stand behind you though.

Sheila,
What kind of shift problem did you have??
From reading the owners manual it looks as though there's a chance for the transmission to get stuck in park and you need to use a special tool from the tool kit to "unstuck" it. Just wondering what your problem was??

My shifting problem was in the linkage - seems it was a little out of whack and just need to be adjusted.

Every once in awhile I would try to move from high to reverse or to park, or park to high or reverse and it would hang up. Jump on it and start moving the bars and would free it up.

It's all better now.

The Traxter is finally home!

Got it last night, and other than the dealership leaving the fuse box cover off, it seems to be in fine shape.

The winch installation--by the dealer--was the root of the problem, as I had initially expected. They claim to have followed Bombardier's directions exactly, but the electrical system was fried.

Heading for the low country of SC this weekend, so I'll be able to tell if the repairs worked.

Glad to hear your problem was resolved. Which winch are you using? I have the Warn A2000 on mine and it works great - had to pull out a friends Mojave three times in one day.
