I am a Police Officer in Florida and can tell you that when they just up'ed the fines again I really got pissed. This is the example of how our fines changed.
changed as of Nov 1, 2004
6-9 mph $54 $78.50
10-14 mph $110 $153.50
15-19 mph $124 $178.50
20-29 mph $184 $203.50
30 mph or more $265 $303.50
It's just to much money. I will usually write a ticket for what's call disregarding a traffic control device, which is basically failing to see the speed limit sign.
I refuse to write some hard working person one of these ridiculous tickets. It's hard enough for a family to make it now adays without having to send some mayors kid to college. So unless you are driving like a real a$shole you won't have to pay these amounts from me.

Can you fight it? Go to the clerk and request a court date. Here in Cal. unless the cop has the day off, they don't appear in court. You have a good chance to get the ticket dismissed. I fight every ticket I get, and the cop has yet to show up.
?
also, how did he get your speed? radar? bumper pace? if radar, then go to the city and ask for the latest radar survey of the road you were on. in ca, if it is over 3 years old, the ticket is tossed.
if bumber paced, then in ca, the distance has to be established at at least 1/2 of a mile of pacing before you get pulled over.
good luck

for the most part if you treat the officer with respect, they will treat you like wise. theres allways the exception though. like the grumpy old motorcycle cop that pulled me over a few years ago. I was as nice as could be. he was a f***ing a**hole. the funny part was, he had a 4" grey hair projecting from his nose hole. yes, I had to tell him about it as he was walking away. he left me no choice.

lesson to all of you: if they are legal, get a radar detector! it has saved my *** many many times. Got a ticket last year cause I had the music up too loud and my puppy in my lap....didn't realize the detector was going off. Of course if a cop turns on his gun just as you pass him, you may be out of luck. It is very useful on the highways/freeways because they are usually shooting other cars and the detector lets me know about them way in advance. The ticket I got last year was 64 in a 55...however he gave me a ticket for "inattentive driving" so it won't go on my record. $110
First and only ticket I've ever had, I reiterate RADAR DETECTOR. Need to put one on the DS hehehe
anyone know what kind of trouble you will get in for riding a 4 wheeler on the street? Like neighborhood streets, not main highways
