In my letter I asked if the det. that has my case is still employed there. They replied "I have never called him".
I am going to dig up the phone bills, that shows I called.

I hate to say it but here's what I think the problem originates. Most states do not require registration of atv's. ATV's pass from one owner to another without any official fees or paperwork that is recognized by any authoritative entity. The "authorities" of my state and your state know this--ATV theft is rampant in Oklahoma (I have friends that have lost a total of 9 bikes and quads in the last 2 years!!!without recovery) I hate to say it, but until we organize and get our states to recognize our vehicles as real property and have mandated registration we really have nothing to prove that we ever owned a particular atv. I have a Certificate of Origin for both my quads, and it looks like a title but I doubt that would count. So I guess our only defense against the efin thieves is insurance. We need an "amber alert" for our ATV's!!!

jiminok is right about this, I would hate to lose the freedom of not giving any more money to the state. IF ATV's were like cars and had to be plated ( or stickered) every year,, the thieft rate would go down. IF the money collected by the state for ATV registrations were to go to riding areas, and for DNR to look for stolen ATV's it would work.
( vote for Wayne for Governor of OK. )
I have bought and sold a lot of ATV's over the years, I have never bought one without a title. I also have been offered ATV's cheap with no title. IF this were to happen to me now, I would check the VIN number and if it was stolen I would turn them in. I know it is hard to turn down an offer when someone trys to sell you something at a really great price, a lot of people don't, this just helps out the thieves.

jim, sounds like you want it so its like it is over here in canada, atvs have to be registered so all have ownership papers(unless its stolen or its so old tha tpeople just don't care to bother with it) and many(like mine) are plated,

Here in California your ATV has to have a title and registration and both are transfered from owner to owner also the ATV must have a green sticker that is renewed every two years about 15.00. that sticker number has to match the one on your registration. You cant ride in forest service areas or state offroad parks without it on your bike. The money go's to pay for maintance of the parks and to pay for Rangers. Not a bad deal and I don't mind paying the fees for the service and it makes it harder to ride a stolen ATV.

JIM,WAYNE YOU GUYS ARE RIGHT. THIS WAS EXPLAINED TO ME WHEN I BOUGHT MY SECOND ATV (BECAUSE THE FIRST WAS STOLEN) GREEN COUNTRY CYCLE LAND HONDA SUZUKI OWNER RON BRAY IS FOR IT AND IS ACTIVLY LOBBYING THE STATE. I HATE TO SAY IT BUT THE CALIFORNIA SYSTEM SOUNDS GOOD. I DONT WANT ANY RESTRICTIONS ON MY ATV BUT A YEARLY FEE STRUCTURE WOULD KICK THIS THEIVERY THING IN THE NUTS.

Yeah well Waynes trailer was stolen too, with the atvs still in it, and it was titled and plated and all that, but title and plate didn't help jack there, the police dept is still too worthless to give a rats ***.
The story here is that a cop watched the stolen truck/trailer/atv's rolling away down the road as a guy approached him and pointed and said that it was stolen, but he drove the other way because it was too much to bother with, must've been too close to donut time or something. somebody needs to lose their life, now there's some action that speaks louder than words. makes me puke man, when thieves are only half your problem.

I am thinking the thieves planned it that way.

I'll admit that the system here is not perfact, in some riding areas we refer to the rangers as the Taliban but other areas they are quite helpful and actually pretty good guys. There really are idiots on both sides................It really would be nice to get your hands on one of these thieves though Man I would be wanting blood.
