Maybe some hope

THANKS FOR THE INFO WAYNE!
As a californian, i would have to say that something in our state works, although the vehicle registration still doesn't detract thieves. As a homeowner, it is easy and cheap to add atvs to your policy, and that is what I did!
If some clown with a gun wants my bike, I say, " the key is in it, and it sometimes pops out of second."

How about an "ON-STAR" transmitter without all the bells and whistles? A small unit designed for bikes with a reasonable monthly fee that could be hidden somewhere on the quad--call the cops, fill a report, call on-star, locate your quad...and maybe then the cops would give a rats *** because then they could possible make a drug bust and find more loot.
I know that cops get more in the way of revenue by nabbing traffic violators...it's easy work for them unlike trying to find someone's pride and joy that's worth 10 grand+. For all I know most cops hate atvs and atvers and could care less if I get ripped off. As far as trailers...I don't know what the state laws are here for enclosed, but my flatbed has no license plate...there's got to be something we could come up with to change the recovery rate of stolen, quads, bikes, trailers, etc. and bust the friggen theives.
You story is a painful one, Wayne. From having it on video, to actually seeing the crook drive away and passing a cop as he left the scene, and then the cops jacking up the report and blatently not giving a damn all is reason for needing something to aid in recovery of your property. There's no real justice in an insurance claim...and if the recovery rate doesn't change premiums will.
I don't have the answers, just thoughts and suggestions as this problem hits home way too often.

2 things
The cops that live in cities that depend on the revenue from atv'r and off roaders sure don't hate us!!. I have been going to Pismo (oceano) Dunes for years now, and have yet to run into any cop that was not going out of their way to be nice.
even with onstar, cops cannot drop everything they are doing and investigate an onstar call. example/ person that lives in my town had his suburban stolen. he called onstar, who was able to give him a physical address as to where it was. he called city pd and county sheriffs. both said will get to it when can. 2 hrs passed and he decided to check it out himself. suspects were in the act of stripping it right on the street!!! he called pd back only to hear blah blah blah. Insurance bought him a new suburban, then cancelled him.
I don't think onstar will ever solve the theft problem, but having insurance sure does make it feel better!! pesonally, i take my dog and my .40 cal glock with me on ANY overnight trips, and i haven't had 1 problem........

Wayne, your story is not so different from mine.
Only difference is, you have had loads of people donate $ to help ease the pain.
I am sure your quad as well as mine, look like C3PO from the beggining of Star Wars.
Someone here in my county just the other day found a guy burglarizing his home. The thief ran out and the owner gave chase. The guy was too fast and ran away. He saw the getaway car/driver and began to chase it with his truck. After a few turns they were on the freeway going over 100mph. They went close to where the chase started and there on the side of the freeway was the initial burglar waiting to be picked up. He got picked up allright. The guy who was being robbed ran the robber over and killed him dead. The news people made the comment " finally a thief get's what he deserves." No charges have been filed and no arrests have been made. I told my nephew the only one to complain will be the mother and sure enough she comes on TV and cries "he was a good man. He never hurt anybody. I want justice." He had a rap sheet a mile long. He was NO GOOD. He hurt someone everytime he stole from them. He got his justice.
I hope the thieves that stole from us get the same justice.

Well guys I got to take a little frustration out on some sorry sh$tbag thieves for you guys this weekend. We have been having a problem in our government assisted public housing units with the little dope slingers riding some of the fastest quads, and dirtbikes that I have ever seen. So I checked into this a little bit and found out that there had been 200 stolen quads, and bikes in the next county over, and all of the bikes were being brought into this area. Well after spending two solid days just watching the hundreds of bikes riding down the road, and into the parking lots and got myself a plan together. You can't get anywhere near these guys with a patrol car, so I got it cleared to bring out several quads from our impound lot and put undercovers all over the place. The plan was simple wait for one or two of them to pull up and then rush em hard for a take down. If one, or both ran we had a total of 6 Banshee's, 3 YFZ's, and my DS. It was a great, great day at work i'm hear to tell you. We ended up with 15 stolen bikes at the end of the day. 7 use of force reports, and 2 dog bites. And a total of 17 arrested for grand theft auto, and most of them were muling crack. And let me tell you guys the best part. My cousin died two years ago and my other cousin was left with his CR 125. It was his pride and joy and the thing never left the garage.Well some low life sum bitch knocked his garage door down and took it. Well I got it back last night. I plan on doing alot more of this type of sh$tbag catching in the very near future.
Wayne I really hope that you find your property, I know how frustrated you are, been there. Good luck and let me know if there is anything that I can do for you.

That is one of the coolest true stories I have ever heard. With any luck there will be 15 elated ATV owners due to that work, and be sure to keep up the good work! If you have any more good stories like that don't hesitate to post. Who knows, maybe some day you'll recover a Forum members quad!
