Freez, it is possible, I spent alot of time getting my intake rubber perfect, if I recall correctly there is sort of an o-ring cast into the rubber to mate to the carb and intake. I believe I had to shave off half of that to let the boot slide closer to the carb and intake. You still retain some of the ring for a seal and to help keep the carb from coming loose. Don't forget to port match your exhaust, my gasket impeded flow. Good luck, I hope this helps.
