Magura Clutch on DS650.
#1
I've been wanting one of these for some time now, and when BRP started listing a magura clutch assembly with a brp part number I was out of excuses.
I finally ordered one a few weeks ago from a dealer in florida since I had some in store credit waiting to be used.
Anyway, here's my crappy little review.
The unit comes pre-assembled, filled with oil, no bleading necessary. I'm sure it's a pain in the @ss to blead, but It can't be much worse than trying to install and route the hydraulic line with it pre assembled, complete with a new neutral overide switch. Damn near everything in the whole front end including the oil tank either had to be removed and/or moved out of the way to get the job done. Even with all the headache installing, it took less than two hours to get the job done.
If I had only two words to describe the operation of the magura clutch they would have to be "smooth and light". There is considerably less force required to disengage the clutch now. It has a very linear and accurate feel to it that makes it really easy to feather the clutch. I'm not too good at holding a wheelie for extended distances, but for some reason or another, it's alot easier to get the front end up and keep it there. I might be imagining things, but I would swear that the clutch actually grabs harder now.
Another cool feature is the clutch handle adjustment. a little red **** on the clutch handle allows you to adjust how far away from the grip the cluch handle is at rest. Don't remember the exact range of adjustment, but it's considerable.
Anyway, the clutch is well worth every penny I paid for it. I paid considerably less than MSRP

Hey DSDuneCrazy,
I think I'll be in the market to get one. I assume the whole front peice has to be removed to do it. What concerns me is I have heard of people installing this kid (not just the DS) incorrectly and burning up clutches as a result.

I have had this clutch for awhile and absolutely love it. I am running the TVI red springs and the clutch makes it feel like a stock one. Off the line is better along with the wheelies. A good investment and I am not sorry I got one.

I believe MSRP through BRP is around $280. If any of you have ever looked at RMATV they sell the Magura hydraulic clutches at a flat rate of $200 for all types of dirtbikes and ATV's. I e-mailed RMATV about a month ago with the DS650 part number to see if they plan to carry it. They got back to me stating that they would consider adding it to their spring catalog whenever that comes out. Just thought I would pass along.

Question: Is the cable on the slave cylinder the same diameter as the stock clutch cable or is it very thin? I'm wondering if the slave cylinder will hold up to very very stiff springs, stiffer than PAMI.

I got mine last fall and installed it myself. It only took me about 30 mins. to take the old one out and install the new one. I did NOT have to remove any other part of my bike to install. Pretty simple really.........One of the best purchases I have made for my DS....
