Default Carbon Leaks

Hey Pete,

I think i may have some carbon leaks on my stock exhaust on my DS. Im pretty sure that this is causing the motor to run a little lean, and in the long run could mess something up. Should i get an aftermarket exhaust or is there something i could do to prevent spending money on an exhaust?

P.S.- Is it possible that the motor has water in it and this is the liquids thats shooting out the side of the end cap on the exhaust. Im pretty sure its carbon build up cause when i put a little bit of it on my finger, its black. Thanks. Rick

One of my freinds had the same problem and his motor was running way to lean. No matter how many times he would rejet, the jetting would just be off about a week later. He winded up getting an aftermakret exhaust system, rejetted, and his bike has been mint ever since. IMO, i would get an aftermarket exhuast, becuase that would fix your problems. Also if you rub your finger on the "liquid" type stuff that is coming out of the exhaust end cap, and its black, its most likely not water, it like what you said you thought it was....carbon build up. Hope that helps.

It's condensation from the 700 degree exhaust passing through the exhaust pipe next to the 70 degree air, and the black sootty deposits in the water is just emmissions that's very common. You will notice water dripping out of the tailpipes of most vehiecles quite often. I wouldn't be worried.
