Hi
The winch has died on my outlander at the weekend and it sounds like bombardier dont want to replace it under warranty
has anybody else ever seen electrical sparks from the front fairlead as the wire touches it ? this is what happened before the winch finally stop working all together
having taken the motor from the main body of the winch it has obviously got wet and shorted out then overheated and burnt out
aren't these winches supposed to be waterproof as they are mounted below the level at which the atv is supposed to be able to safely travel through water
as i am in england i wondered if any of you guys in canada or usa can tell me how much it would cost to replace the motor of a Warn 2.5 ci 2500lbs winch
i have scoured the internet but nobody advertises any prices for them

I had the exact same problem last year. The Bomb dealer would not warranty it. I took the winch to a warn dealer and they did warranty the motor. They did charge me about $80us to clean and regrease the rest of it. They also told me that it is not a sealed unit. You have to get a 3000 winch to get a sealed motor. AS to why it shorted, conductive mud/water was the answer.
I also have a warn 2000 winch on another 4wheeler. It has been in the same type of mud and water for over 4 years and has never had a problem. Not sure why????
Not sure if you have a warn dealer anywhere near you, but maybe try checking their website for a new motor.
Good luck!
