I asked the same about the diesel water heater and furnace. Maybe Prevost has a new thing.
The front air will cool the 2 front passengers, barely. I usually turn the engine air off and use the gen. That helps the engine on big hills anyway. Maybe some of the high end coaches are insulated better, but we struggle with one air and use the second if it's over 100 outside. In the morning I use my diesel powered coffee maker.

You guys have to look at the newer fuel injected motor homes. I have a Ford 460 32 foot. It gets tops 10mpg when pulling nothing. Rear axle is 6.15 but wheels are big. Varies between 6.5 mpg and about 8 mpg pulling most anything. My covered trailer is the worst. It can easily top out at about 90 mph on level ground. Crusing at 70 is nothing. Amazing thing about my trans is that the torque converter locks up in 2nd, 3rd and over-drive. This keeps the trans cool on even the longest 9% grades. Longest grade I can remember is some highway coming out of Las Vegas that was continuous high grade for it seemed like 10 miles climbing into the Rockies. I think the older carbed motor homes are marginal; but the newer ones are great. As far as towing, dry weight is 15,000. GCVW is something like 27,000 if I remember right. Its got a lot of reserve towing capacity!

Bryce, is the 460 just TBI? I thought it was carbureted. The MPI's are the ones to look for. The 460 should still have the small "donut" wheels. They got rid of those about 1997 when ford went to the V-10 and larger chassis to compete with the chevy workhorse. I lost you on your trailer, it does 90mph? LOL Budman650. Not talking about speed, I get the worst gas mileage with my covered trailer because of it frontal area. My engine is 460 MPI if I remember right, definity not carbed. Your right, I have the older straight axle chassis. I prefered that to the Chevys, because the Chevys IFS always seemed to look overloaded, JMO. Not sure what to think about the new V10 (if it has alum heads, not thrilled), but I like the new chassis.

So if you're only cooling with the front air, does it get hot when cutting across the desert during the day. Is it ok to run the generator when driving?

SB, diesel furnace & water heater. You pulling our leg?? I dig the thought, but just didn't know it was an option.

Yes, its a new option, my beaver has a diesel boiler that has unlimited hot water, runs thru the engine for warm starts, and heats the coach when needed. Both airs are heat pumps also. You can and Im sure I will have to run the generator during hot weather even with the insulation package being great. I live in the NWest so we dont have a lot of heat I will get to test it out in a few weeks heading down to Lousiana to the drags if there is sum hot weather on the way. I get 7 mpg with the cat engine pulling my trailer loaded, about 9,000 lbs plus the 40' rig. Im a total of 65' long

Let me introduce you fine gentlemen to the White trash camp package, #10 in my pics. It was made by Spartan trailers, a loooong time ago.
Our dunebuggy rides on the trailer and my quad in the truck with my sons threewheeler in the trailer. As my family grows I don't know what I'm going to carry 4 quads and a dunebuggy with, I'm leaning toward a Class A and a large box trailer. The buggy is street legal and can travel for supplies or whatever.

Nice topic, thanks for all the input, I know its helping me.
I was going for a 5th wheel , but I since bought a boat, and now I need a MH. I cannaot pull triples in the length I will be (25' boat, 30' on tailer).
There are some new Workhorse Chassis Chevy's with the 8.1, Allison tranny, that are a pretty stout drive train anf get over 10mpg.
I found one that will tow 7500 pounds.
Class C's have one limiting factor to me, they are very cramped up in the captains seat if your over 6' tall. Bring 6'4" I cannot fit in any of the Class C's drivers seats.

You're right about the class c. We didn't like driving it. I've got the chevy truck HD2500 with the 8.1 and allison trans. It does have a 6" lift and oversize tires, but nothing compared to the size of a class A. I have never come close to 10 mpg. Where did you get your figures? I hope not the trusting salesman.

I am not trusting any salesman, I am a salesman...lol
I have a good freind with the same coach I want to buy, and as long as he stays under 75 mph, he gets near 12.

Oops! I'm sure you're an awesome salesman. I'm talking about the one who will tell you anything just to make the sale. You know what I'm talking about. Just like in boats when the sales guy says it will do 80 mph and the poor kid can't get it over 70. 12 mpg! That's great. I bet some diesel pushers are jealous. I really should change my driving habits.
