Help, I cannot get it started!!!!!!!!!!
#1
I recently purchased a 2001 DS650 and it had been stored in a garage for about 6 months. I drained all the old gas and replaced with new, charged the battery, checked the plugs, and checked all the fluids. I tried to start it but it will not start. It will turn over and but will not run. I tried spraying some starter fluid in the air intake and it fired right up but will not stay running. After running the battery down several times and using the starter fluid I thought the new gas would eventually clean out the carb but it still will not run. Although it is an 01 it only has about 15 hrs run time. I bought it from my brother and he bought it from a dealer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

check plugs again they may be fouled from trying to start it . also try and bypass your kill switch it may be bad, test your battery it may be no good it might be original if you can get 3 years on a ds battery you are doing someything that you need to share with everyone!! and once they start going bad they run funky

Not sure why everyone is suggestiong electrical fixes. If it runs when you spray starter fluid in it sounds like the electrical is fine. It's not getting fuel for some reason. Take the carb off and disassemble. Clean it. Make sure all the holes are clear. Sounds like it's gummed up from sitting. Maybe the float is stuck and not letting gas into the bowl.

Instead of starter fluid I use WD40. It works well and has oil in it so it doesn't wash down the cylinder walls like regular starting fluid. I do this with my 2 strokes. Didn't think starter fluid would be a problem with 4 strokes though.

The carb is clogged. Take it off and do a clean job on it. Starting fluid is fine; not a good idea to use it on a 15:1 motor though.
