ds650 sand tires

I've been told that if you stay away from glue on paddel's, and stick with sold tires you'll be ok. Which rules out the haulers you were planning on. I have the same situation. That's why I'm leaning towards sand skate II's or paddal-a-brat's.

alock: Can you give me a little more info on your friends DS650 dune tires? You said he used 10" rims? What size sand skate II did he use - 20x11x10? How many paddles does he have? He doesn't feel he's hooking up in the sand? From what I've read in the forums, you don't want a tire that is too aggressive for the amount of HP you have or you will not have the power to keep the wheels spinning, so a certain amount of wheel spin is a good thing for sand drags. I'm trying to figure out how aggressive a tire I need for my DS650. If we have enough power, a bigger tire or 9 or 10 paddles could give us the edge that we need. I'm going to be going with the Ron Wood Stage One package in about 1 1/2 weeks so I will have even more power. I think I'll try 9 paddles on a 10" rim. I'm still debating V-shaped paddles vs. straight paddles. Straight paddles should hook up better in a drag. I don't understand the turning issue with the rear paddles? As for front paddles, I think that the DS650 would benefit from them more than any other quad, due to the weight of the front end. The stock tires definitely feel like they are pushing sand, which slows you down in a drag. The front tires need to slide not sink & push sand.

Still waiting for the aftermarket 10" rims.

20 X 11 X 10, 9 paddel sand skate II's They hook up many times better than conventional tires, how ever, you still get a good bit of wheel spin = lost torque. With your plans to bump up the power, I think that straigts would give better hookup. Just don't hookup so well that you flip.

Mounted my new 20x11x9 9 paddle haulers on the stock rims, will be at Little sahara in Oklahoma fri. ,will let you guys know on monday how they performed, along with my CT pipe and K&N filter.

I was at the dunes yesterday and saw 3 of the new ds650's out there. they were all running haulers. They hooked up real good and man do they throw a roost. They were smoking the 400ex in the hill climbs and really giving alot of the banshees a run for their money. I was really impressed with them. I believe they ran 8 to 10 paddles on them. I run 8's on my banshee and they appeared to be the same tire. Which ever one you get, make sure they have a good hard paddle on them. the torque you can generate with your 4 strokes can be murder on a soft paddle. Ive seen "edge" paddles tear with the torque of a warrior, so you may want to avoid them. As for a previous post, vulcanized paddles are stronger than molded ones. They tend to have harder cleats on them. Thats why they arent molded. its difficult to mold two different rubber compounds together. Usually a molded tire is softer. What ever you get, enjoy.

Dose the DS650 have a Reverse gear?

No reverse gear on these. I can live without it though.

When I finally get one that is.

No it does not have reverse but it does have electric start

I went with the 20x10x10 9 paddle skat-trak hauler with .160 douglas 10x9 rims. Rocky Mountain ATV finally got the rear 10" rims in. I should get them in 3-5 days. Sand Tires Unlimited admitted that the sand skate II's are not as fast as skat-trak haulers for racing or hill climbing, but they are still a good sand tire.
