Default axle and bearings..

The crow foot # in my 02-03 manual is: 529 035 729
I didn't take any offense. AAARRRGGGGHHHHHHH That was my best pirate impersonation
I don't know what I'm talking about most of the time anyway.

Dave,

You didn't necessarily do it wrong. We are not talking about apples and apples here. It was my understanding that the 2000-2003 are all the same but the 04 was different because of the new style nut. The part number mudnuri gave above is correct but not for an 04....Since he has a similar year DS as you I would follow his suggestions for torque and preload....

how do you like that twist throttle scoundrel? i was thinking about getting one but not sure if it would work with the baja hand guards, I plan on getting them shortly

this may be a dumb question, is there an easy way to grease the axel bearings?
I have an 04 ds650.
