Default Replacing the front sprocket

I'm dropping to a 14th front sprocket. Do I need to remove a link? How easy is that big nut to crack? What tourqe to retighten? And what about the bolt I read about changing? Any other tips or instructions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

If you don't have an impact, get a 30mm socket and a breaker bar, put it in gear, put the breaks on and break it loose, it is on there tight. On the sprocket nut, there is a splined washer you will have to flatten out with a screwdriver, You don't have to take any links out, read your manual on how to adjust the chain. Loosen it up all the way, that way you can pull the sprocket off. The sprocket nut has a grove in it, watch how it comes off so you can put it on the same way. I think you tighten it to 100 ft. lbs. or maybe a little more, but with the slpined washer bend the tabs down, and it will never come loose, don't rebend it in the same place. I think some people had to turn around a motor mount bolt if the chain rubs on it.

If you fall on your A$$ when she breaks free. . . don't worry. . . you weren't the first to do that

I thought they were at something like 170 ft/lbs!!! Don't need to be that tight.

If you lose one, you can use the second nut on the swingarm bolt. They are the same size!

Get an extra and a new lock washer. These should be in your spare parts bin.

Too late, I broke the chain open and damaged an O ring. What are my options? Remove a link? Replace with a clipped master?

This is a Regina Chain. It looks like a 530. Local store has 530 clip style for a DID chain. You think they are compatible?

How much top speed would a guy lose going from a 16 to a 15?

Not sure, but where I ride, the dunes, top speed is rarely if ever reached. I'm just getting tired of being beat off the line.
