Outlander SST frame
#1
I have a quick question regarding the Outlander SST frame. I am hoping that some Outlander owners can fill me in. I have a Prairie 650 and know that I beat the heck out of the bottom of it. W/in 4 months of purchase I had ripped the stock skid plates off on some large rocks. I replaced the stock plate w/ a Ricochet plate and it works well, but shows the signs of abuse, ie. dents. Now for my question.... If your quad doesn't have skid plates and the frame (surrounding spar technology) acts as the skid plate, what happens when you bottom on a rock? Does it result in a bent frame? I have looked, but had no luck in finding aftermarket skid plates for the Outlander. The reason I am asking, is that I am considering retiring my '03 P650 and purchasing an Outlander 800, once they arrive at the dealer. But, I am concerned about how well the SST frame will hold up to hard riding over downed trees and rock hopping. Thanks in advance for any feedback. I am a big Kawasaki fan, but cannot deny how good the new Outlander looks on paper...

I have a skid plate that is made of polycarbonate(Lexan) it is made by Hebco. Do a search for Perfex, he is the owner and makes them in stainless steel, aluminum and polycarb. I know he is going to make them for the 800Outty. Bombardier will make them in aluminum also.
I don't think you will really need them with 12" of GC!!!!
And yes the frames can take a lot of abuse.
