Default porting ?

I was just wondering if having a rough intake port would make more power than having a polished one then why wouldn't roughing the inside of the carb be better.

I could be blowing smoke here but let me give you what I was told. The porting of the intake does not polish them but rather remove the flash and burrs from the castings. The inside walls of the intake are slightly shaped to increase the swirling effect causing the Air/fuel to mix better prior to entering the combustion chamber.

In some cases the porting includes opening the cavities larger to increase the amount of air/fuel mixture to flow.

Of course all this theory can be blown out of the water by someone who knows more then I......lol

Heres how it was explained to me by 222. The porting of the intake is rough because it doesnt allow the fuel to collect on inside of the intake and return to liquid form. Further agitating and atomizing the fuel. I just received my intake from hpr for my 48hv. they removed the bump on the top where it begins to Y and the match the port to the carb. The inside is alot larger than stock and is fairly rough. Hope this helps.

I guess I should have read your question more carefully. I would say that on the filter side of the carb it would be smooth to increase velocity of the air. Probably on the intake side the same reason, velocity. But thats a really good question. A good one for Eric or 222. Id like know also why you wouldnt do the same porting on intake side of carb.

Hey oz dont mean to jump in but the race port job i got from hpr is outstanding. I dont know if it was the ported and polished head with oversized valves, or the race ported intake with 48hv, or the 730 kit but this mother screams. The only problem im having with my build is i hit the rev limiter to fast. I guess im gonna have to get a vortec cdi .I think that is what it is called. I highly recomend hpr they do a great job.

I got the race porting. Im just about done with my build. Dyin to get it broke in and run it hard. I just got home from the shop its 2am. I guess I just lost track of time. Hey 2big2be fast did you get the moose throttle? Man I cannot figure out what end goes where. Does the ball end go into the slide or the cylinder end? Im going to search it on here. Let me know if you had problems and how you got it to work.

On the moose throttle the ball goes into the throttle i do believe. All you have to do is where the cables are connected together at the adjustment place make sure the short side connects to the throttle and the long side of the cable connects to the carb. I hope the 110 octane is cheaper in oregan than in california becouse 5 gallons cost 30 dollars with tax and all. 5 gallons of gas will give me about 3 and a half to 4 hours of good hard riding.
