Here is a quickee for all you two stroke dis believers. New two strokes are a possibility. What's better than making a four-stroke more powerful cc for cc? Making a two stroke with less emissions. It is possible. New two strokes are utilizing different types of variable exhaust valves and porting combinations to greatly enhance performance and reduce emmisions. Rotax is a big player in this market. Lets hope for the best.

I agree on the Rotax ability with the engineering and money from Bombardier, however I"ve been told that Bombardier will never make a 2 Stroke ATV.
I hate the word NEVER, but they (Bombardier) seem very certain of that statement.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but the Rotax 380 is Ski-Doo's least powerful engine and is used on entry level sleds. It is not a high tech engine. It is a 368 cc piston port air/fan cooled twin with no powervalves. In the sled it is fitted with two Mikuni VM30SS carbs and puts out about 35 hp. This motor is less powerful than the Banshee powerplant.

i think one of the things that keeps 2-strokes not emmsions friendly is that they burn the oil with the gas. if any company could make a 2-stroke that was a dry or wet sump that would be great.

Duncan,
Making horsepower is not a big problem for Rotax, with Bombardier backing and research engineers, they can make ANYTHING !

Making 100 HP from a 380 cc two cylinder 2 stroke, is not a difficult move.

Where do you draw the sensible line?

Why make a hot 2 stroke when Rotax 4 strokes can make massive power numbers and are more eviro friendly?

Dont forget the DS650 is a detuned 650 motorcycle engine.

Cheers,

4-strokes to equal 2-strokes, would need almost double the displacement. And with that comes weight.Take the Raptor and Banshee for instance. Even though the Raptor uses a lot of aluminum, its still heavier than the banshee, which has 2 cylinders.

4-strokes are nice. But 2-strokes still rule the day.

2-strokes are lighter, faster, just as reliable (if not more so). Plus they respond to mods MUCH better.

I know Bombardier would produce a 2 stroke, dont u remember the Can AM dirtbike, that was 2 stroke, and to this day they are still are still an extremely fast bike, they may not be a main-stream bike like CR's, YZ's but they could still kick their *** in a race. I think they'd make a 2 stroke quad cause theres a major market for them, they've already conquerd 2 other markets (4stroke sport and 4x4) Y wouldnt they move on the the next field, i say BRING ON THE SCREAMER!!!!!!
