Roost as per blow-by, I loose oil when I over rev alot, and when spraying nitrous. If you are really overreving your engine you could be getting some coming out. If where you are riding has lots of bumps and your on it hard, you will get some oil splashing around and pushed out of the breather. I dont think this is caused by blow by.

I have probably 150 hours on this bike, and it has never dumped anywhere near this much oil though... as long as nothing is wrong I dont really have a problem with adding oil every once in awhile. I think I am going to route it somewhere else though because as of now its routed up the radiator brace, so when it leaks from the bag it drips on the header.

What Mark was talkng about is a catch can for the oil. I have them on all of our bikes. The vent line runs into a can with a divider, then a filter is attached to it, catching the oil that comes up. Its not a perfect solution as you still get oil from the filter, but better than nothing. Pingel makes some, and your Harley Dealer can get you them.

ya thats why I said I would need more than a spray paint cap (what I have heard most rig up as a breather catch can) to catch all the oil that my ds is spitting out.

I checked out Capewindy's ride. he had his re routed up the frame and over to where the sub frame connects to the frame. He zip tied it above the chain so when it drips he get a free chain oiling.

I saw another ds picture that had it routed in that area as well. I dont think our chains are supposed to be oiled are they? I know a lot of o-ring chains are not supposed to get oiled, because it hurts more than it helps.

Maybe I will try cruising around for a tank without revving above 6k or so and see what happens.

I still dont know what to do about the cam/pistons.. MR.HP reccomended the hpr1 cams, and said he can take the 12:1 down to an 11:1.

Does anyone know approx what the gains are and where in the powerband from various piston/cam combos? Anyone have a baseline dyno and then one with cams and/or pistons in?

You should always oil your chain before everyride. There a couple of different types chain wax and chain oil. You have to keep them lubed or they will wear out the chain and sprokets real quick. I take my pressurewasher to the chain everytime I clean my DS (nearly after every ride) let it dry and oil it up. Im not sure but I dont think there are any chains that dont require oiling. The DS manual recommends oiling the chain with and O-ring safe lubricant.

Roost, you said you get approx. 2 table spoons per hour, show log do you go before you stop? anytime you stop you can reach down and release all the caught oil. The one I have on my wifes machine hold a pint! I'll try to get a pic up.
