What mod next?, piston/cams or head porting? Also question on possible blow-by

I take my pressurewasher to the chain everytime I clean my DS (nearly after every ride) let it dry and oil it up. Im not sure but I dont think there are any chains that dont require oiling. The DS manual recommends oiling the chain with and O-ring safe lubricant.

Scatterbrain,
Well I'd probably disagree with you on that point - but only for those that sand ride. Oil attracts sand - and sand is not what you want on your chain. If you have a sealed chain, the only time you need to oil it is to clean it, then wipe it off. Sealed chain do not require oil, and you DO NOT want to pressure wash them - If you do, you will break the o-ring seal and allow water to enter the sealed components.

I was going by the manual for a stock chain. It does say to oil the chain. However I would agree that in the sand alot of oil would not be good. You would have sand stuck to it. Im running a 530 non-Oring chain pressure washing isnt really an issue. I could see how you might possibly damage the o-rings, but I never had any problems just keep the pressure down. The stuff I use on the chain doesnt seem to gather much sand I will find out what it is and post it later. Which reminds me I have to call you today about some stuff.

Mike,
Right now I have HR3 cams and a 12:1 piston which I use with a gasket set to reduce the comp to 11:1 so I can use 91 pump gas. I run a K&N filter w/prefilter and a modified cover. I have a match ported intake although I'm going to install a TM45 in the next couple of weeks so I don't know if the intake will do me any good being that its matched to the stock carb. Nevertheless it has to be better then stock. I also use the HMF slip-on along with the Barnett clutch kit and HPR4(?) clutch springs. The CDI I use at this time is the Big Gun and to this point I haven't had any problems but if I do I will get a vortex or return to stock.
I haven't had any issue with dumping oil out of my vent hose yet so I can't comment on that.....

Scoundrel sounds like your setup is pretty close to what mine would be. (I have hmf and a K&N with outerwear in the box, and ported intake) I had a big gun but went back to stock. I also have the stock carb right now.
Did you do the piston/cams both at once? What kind of difference did you see? (if you drag some buddies or somthing, how many bike lengths did you gain?)
So the hpr4 are the agressive top-end cams right? How is your low and mid range power? (any dynos?)
Lastly, did you do the work yourself? If so, how hard/how long was the install?
Sorry for all the questions!

I did both the cams and piston at the same time. She is still a virgin, I haven't had time or transportation to get it out for a test ride.
I got the HR3 not the 4 and yes the 4 is a more agressive cam according to Randall.
I did the work myself with the exception of having Eaglecollector advising as I put it back together.
I plan to have the TM45 on before DS days but I wont have a chance to test ride it until I get there so that should be interesting to say the least.

Ahh ok, so there are hpr1/2/3/4 cams? and it just gets more agressive as the number climbs? (moving the power further up in the powerband as well?)
Eric suggested the hpr1's...are these really really mild? I would sacrifice some bottom end for top end, just as long as it not a total dog trying to put put around at low rpms.
Good luck with getting her going, hopefully the TM dosnt give you any troubles! I am still trying to track down a TM and hopefully once I find one I wont go insane trying to tune it and get the pumper working for me.

Scatter, there is more cams than the ones mentioned, I run HPR5 nitrous cams! I also have HPR 4 in a bike, and the fours are a much better all around cam, but you will give up a little bottom with them. I think the HPR 3 would be a better large cam for you, but you have to go to shim unders with them. And just for your info, on our hill here, which is 1100' I had a 46hv, vortex, k&n, end cap, and then went to HPR 4 nitrous cams, 11-1, ron woods pipe, holy SHAT!! Night and day, completely different machine. Oh I would guess 30 length difference on the hill!!

Well I am nearly poor (relatively speaking) so shim-unders would add too much cost, I just need somthing I can drop in. So my options are hpr 1/2/4? Or do the 4's require shim unders as well?
I wish someone had a listing of each available cam and what each cam provided I like hpr stuff, but I know some still reccomend the woods a1/a2 (not that I know what those do..lol)
I think my buddies will have a hard time finding somthing to keep up wtih me now...because the one is with the hmf and head porting (who is 1/2 ahead of me or even depending on holeshot) wants a new carb and I think with myself getting a TM piston/cams I should be able to stomp him.
I also want the ability to pull the front up without effort in second, and also in third. Sometimes we are cruising in the dunes/woods I want to pop the front so I can carry speed over a drop off, or to hop over a log, but usually the power isnt there in 3rd.
How long would you guys say it should take to open up change piston/cams and reassemble?
