Bombardier's fatal flaw???----interesting UPDATE
Roost,
What model number is your DS650? That would also lend a lot of info to the problem. As I said before, my 2003 hasn't had any problems, whatsoever. So I would be very suprised if your 'model number' was the same as mine. It would seem more likely that your model number would match one of the other potentially problematic model numbers. However, this is all still speculation until we can get a good number of people all with the same issue.

What are we at so far for numbers? I think off the top of my head there are 5 baja X's for sure with 3 possible others....Correct me if I am wrong. And if anyone else can step forward with their info and has had the same problem, we can continue to add to this number until we have enough to justify something for real, otherwise, like Blackhawk said, it's just all speculation for now numberwise, even though a few may be convinced already.

Bombardier's fatal flaw???----interesting UPDATE
Interesting post, my 04 baja X is going fine and I just checked my model no7997, 80hrs now and all in dunes. I might just check comp to be sure. I bought the bom for reliability, as I have a yamaha 660 motor in pieces because of their **** weak rods. Hope this is not a major prob!!

Bombardier's fatal flaw???----interesting UPDATE
Haven't heard anything about model 7997, just seems to be 7995 thus far.
But to basically be sure, you'd have to tear the engine down, you might be able to tell if it went bad with a compresion test, but like some of us have experienced, there can be some good numbers but still bad rings. Hope for the best for everyone, and for anyone who can, do yourself the favour for peace of mind and check it out, it's worth the time....

I have a baja X that nuked the rings also. It is model 7995 and was made 9/2003. Ironically, the reason I purchased the ds was of it's supposed reliablity. I still belive the bike is well made, but perhaps I'm just bitter because I had to tear it down and it's only got 30 hrs. Man, this sucks!
