Stock Carb Mods

I put a note on the HMF forum about what you said. I'll see if I get a response. Otherwise I may try & call & see if they are open Monday & ask what they want to do with it.
I will install a DJ185 & adjust float after I finish house cleaning. I really wanted to ride this week-end! ARGH!

Olds, I have been running the OMR mods and have gained top end. My midrange is real strong, and the top pulls cleaner and stronger as well. I'm very glad I have done these mods and hope you are able to get yours dialed in.
Here is where I'm at
All OMR's mods.
Float level.
185 DJ main
4th groove
50 pilot with 4 turns
14" inlet tubes 6" into the airbox
K&N with outerwear
lid on
Home made slip on with 10 4" Supertrapp discs.
This was tuned on a dyno with 11 runs. The dyno results are posted in my pics, but I had knobbies that would slip when I reached round 30lbs torque so the numbers are lower than you would expect.

Stir,
What is your float set at? like what is the heigth on each end as I've wrote mine in previous posts on page 9.
Are you running the DJ needle?
I only have a 45 pilot (my stock one was only 40) I'm at 5 turns out though. How far is too far out? Then again the bottom feels OK.
What is your opinion about my pipe leak?
Would you say your top end is strong than at any other time?

I have the DJ needle.
I do not remember the measurement of the float, but I set both hinged and unhindged the same, so level.
My stock pilot was a 40 also. I think even 4 turns out like I'm running is a little too far and would like to go to a 55. my gut says 2.5 or 3 turns out should be max and then its time to move up. This is just a gut feeling from my time with "normal" direct pull carbs.
I have not seen your pipe in person, but in general I think the leak is not good. I think the size will play a big role on its impact on your top end. The biger the leak the more impact.
My top end is at it highest since I have started. For me these mods have made each gear have a much broader range of use form low to high. I do not have a tach to check top end RPM, just a little digital one that I use as an hour meter and to set the idle, but I do have a 1/4 mile hill that the mods have added almost 5 MPH (by my GPS) when I run it flat out. This was when I was runningthe stock pipe with a modded end cap. My new pipe added another 3 MPH. This is the average of three runs each.
Good luck.
Scott

Sounds like you've had great success with these mods. I wish I could attain the same.
The weld on the tab is broke about 40% around the tab. It's the mount that is where the stock pipe & HMF mount closet to your left leg.

I install the 175 main jet and put in the washer that was missing and also the new spring that moves the slide up and down. I also cut the factory tubes coming out of the air box. I could feel the difference in the bottom and mid range. But didnt get the chance to open it up on top. I am going to bring it to the dyno again soon to see if my # improve. I will let you all know how it goes. Thanks again OMR

What are your opinions on that causing a loss of power?
I think I may send it back to HMF & have them check the packing though.
