Default tuning question

I just got to run my quad for the first time after doing some mods. ODP end cap (sparky), 172 jet, needle on 5th position. The problem I am having is that sometimes the quad will pop then die. This happens every now and then when I back out of the throttle then back on slightly. I'm able to hit the starter and it fires back up.

Kinda feels like it backfires through the carb. The bike runs real strong from botton to top end. Any ideas?

Thanks, Joey

Default tuning question

mine use to do the same thing, i run an 04X...if i had to slow down or break fast it would pop and stall

felt like it was coming from under the seat in air box or carb...mine was stock..i brought it in and had it looked at and no one could figuire it out, they said the jetting was tuned fine,

since then my reg/rec went bad and i replaced, but at the same time i added an endcap and filter..stayed with my stock jetting and it hasnt happened since...WOW im not sure where im going with this

your jetting my be off, i added the endcap also with filter and stayed with stock jetting and it is fine or maybe your reg/rec is bad, i would start with the jetting..doesnt sound right

To ritch and to lean sometimes act the same. Even though through the carb usually means lean. However considering you clip is on the 5th position that means your on the richest setting. Looks like your perty much stock from what you have listed. I would put the clip back in the middle.

The 2000 DS650 had a pilot jet of 40.
With any light mods this is too lean.
Change to a 45 pilot jet.
Turn pilot jet screw out 4 turns.

oldmanracing, could you please explain what the pilot jet does ? Also where can I find a schematic (sp?) of my carb ? I would like to thank you on all the info that you posted on carbs. I plan on doing them but one thing at a time.
