nitromethane more HP ??
#71
i have a hard time believe any of you guys would be able to light a motor on 60% nitro. Forget about 80% or 90%. Just try 60% first and see if you can get it to make more hp then a motor on 40%
that is the "dabeech" challenge

It's the way it ignites in the combustion chamber............?

Yep that's a few reasons. Massive ignition systems are used to bring life to these amounts of fuel. As well as massive fuel pumps to supply nitro in large amounts. Since nitromethane burns slowly the timing is set to 50-60 degrees before TDC. The nitromethanes long burntime is what's responsible for the high flames coming out of the exhaust pipes when driving. The fuel hasn't finished burning and is pumped out flaming.
Choked cylinders are a problem. After a few strokes the cylinder will contain more fuel than fits in the combustion chamber and the engine becomes hydraulic locked. Since fluids cant be compressed it has to go somewhere and that means something has to give in and then we have a major engine-blast.
I might add that a top fuel motor has a life expectancy of about 2-5 miles!
