Default power to weight ratio

Theory,theory,theory.
On paper hp to weight is good math.
But welcome to the real world.
ATV's drag mostly on grass/dirt,sand.
Traction and suspension setup is more important the first 100 feet.
In a 300 foot race 45% of your time is used going the first 100 feet.
If you are behind more than 2 quad length's at 100 feet, it takes a huge amount of power to catch up.
DSMike and Biggerisbetter did alot of testing with weight reduction and found by losing 80 pounds only reduced their et's by .05 of a second.
Inertia and spinning weight will have better gains than weight.
In a drag only quad, every little bit helps, including weight reduction.
Torque and weight have to be balanced, to generate acceleration.
Small cc machines need light weight to have the same ratio as a larger cc machine that weighs more.
DS with endcap generates 42 lbs of torque.
470 lbs divided by 42 = 11 lbs per pound of torque.
yfz450 with pipe generates 26 lbs of torque.
370 lbs divided by 26 = 14 lbs per pound of torque.
In a stock quad that is properly setup, the DS will win.
The little 450's do come from the factory better setup for dragging than the DS.
Setup the suspension and fine tune the motor and start eating.

Boat needs to go visit the DS v/s $13,000 520 TRX thread......where the DS embarrassed the poor guy.....these 450's are pretty quick now days...but, just remember whenever they run out of horsepower, these rotax engines will make more torque than your 450 will make horsepower...ENOUGH SAID

Default power to weight ratio

I bought my ds650, not for speed, but for the dependabilty. On the pavement I was clocked at 81mph, and this puppy is stock. Unless you want to count the K@N filter. Plus I only weigh in at 155lbs. I just think everyone is looking for bragging rights. We will always have somebody that wants to compare machines weight to hp.....

These are the #'s and they dont lie
I JUST WANTED TO POINT OUT THE FACTS! PERIOD!

If you really want to make it fair then figure a average size pilot on each bike, say 175lbs & see where the #'s stack up. Bikes don't pilot themselves you know.

Default power to weight ratio

If you add the same rider to each quad the power to weight would stay very close to the same in relationship to each other.
