It's Baja 1000 Time Again!!
Eichner's team completely lost a rear tire early, had to swap it to the front, then ran out of gas. Took a lot of time to get to them. The rear end was also making noise, so since they were already too far behind, they called it a day.
I did see them adding an extra 2 gallons to their fuel tanks because fuel comsumption was a concern on the 800's. Penland ran a more conservative race which allowed him to stretch his mileage.

I agree. BRP should have backed the DS like they have done in years past, and not worried about the OUTLANDER competing in the PRO class. Its a UTE not a Baja Racer....Sounds like it backfired on them big time this year.

Yep, honda has pretty much kicked everybody in the A$$ with the TRX450 all over this year,
2005 #1 GNC(mx) quad was a Honda 450r.
2005 #2 GNCC(xc) quad was a Honda 450R.(1st was a Yamaha YFZ 450)
2005 #1 TT quad was a Honda 450R
2005 #1 12 hr Maxxis race of america was ridin a 450R
I guess they just built a really good bike this time.

Well, I finally got some info. As reported during the race day notes, the one Outlander had an engine go down. The other two were running strong, but it turned out in a post race inspection that nearly all the ITP ATR tires they were running were from a mistakenly sent batch of blem's and defects. They had tires go south between every pit, costing lots of time, as well as fuel economy resulting in running out of fuel.
After the race they inspected the tires to find that the insides were marked locating areas of defect on the tires that wasn't noticed when they had them shipped and mounted.
When the Outy's were able to run with 4 tires they were extremely fast and durable, so I'd chalk this one up to bad luck.
I believe they will be running at least 1 of the Outlanders in the 2006 SCORE Off Road series so I'd expect to see them have a measure of success in the comming year.
