Yep, honda has pretty much kicked everybody in the A$$ with the TRX450 all over this year,

2005 #1 GNC(mx) quad was a Honda 450r.
2005 #2 GNCC(xc) quad was a Honda 450R.(1st was a Yamaha YFZ 450)
2005 #1 TT quad was a Honda 450R
2005 #1 12 hr Maxxis race of america was ridin a 450R

I guess they just built a really good bike this time.
A lot of it just has to do with riders and backing. A 450R is a great quad and all, but if your good you can win on anything.

BRP Assembles All-Star Team to Race its All-Star Outlander 800 H.O. EFI
Whistler, B-C September 23, 2005 - Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. (BRP) has assembled an all-star ATV racing team to compete on the industry's hottest quad, the 2006 Bombardier*ATV OutlanderTM 800H.O. EFI V-Twin. Epic Racing/Team Golden West will campaign two teams to take on the SCORE Baja 1000. Separately, Mike Penland will compete in the Grand National Cross-Country (GNCC) Utility Stock class. Scott Kilby will compete in the GNCC Utility Modified class.
This is BRP's first effort at racing in North America in the Utility classes. In Europe, BRP teams have won the Baja 1000 and the Baja 2000 races with a DSTM 650 sport quad.
"When you've got the ATV with the most horsepower, you've got to race it to show everyone what it's got," said Pierre *beep*, BRP Vice President and General Manager Snowmobiles, Watercraft, ATVs and Sport Boats. "Just like in our other forms of racing, we are partnering with teams and racers that are the best in the business, proven winners. We are looking forward to seeing these pros show the world that the Outlander 800 H.O. is the highest performance Utility ATV you can buy."
Two teams of four Epic Racing/Team Golden West riders will be hitting the desert to take on the Baja 1000. Team 1 includes Doug Eichner, John Gregory, Marc Spaeth and Dustin Nelson. Team 2 includes Greg Row, Allen White, Tony Baker, Ryan Wheeler. All are accomplished ATV riders, with numerous wins and championships. Most notable, Greg Row won the Baja 2000 in 2000 riding the Bombardier* ATV DS650 in its first competitive event. Jimmy Stephenson was also part of this winning team. Doug Eichner has been the Best in the Desert champion twice and a S.C.O.R.E champion twice.
Penland is one of the most accomplished ATV drivers in the sport's history. The veteran has won 11 National GNCC Utility 4x4 class Championships, and is the current defending champion. In his 15-year career, he has more than 150 GNCC wins. Penland is sponsored are: Maxxis, ATV Direct, Durhamtown Plantation, HMF Exhaust, Klotz Lubricants, Outerwears.
Kilby, who has been racing for more than seven years, has been GNCC Modified Utility class champion six times. He also has competed in two 12 hours of ATV America races - and won both times.

I know BRP is proud of the OUTTY 800 and it is a hella UTE quad for sure. but your asking to much of it to compete with Honda's TOP racer, knowing that Honda also wants to make a big statment about thier NEW&Improoved 450r. BRP should have put their best racer against Honda's best racer, and if the OUTTY 800 is thier best racer???? than they better redesign the DSBAJA

But trying to be "cocky" and pit a UTE agianst true racers, HONDA has now taken the TOP 4 places in the race. talk about an a$$-kicking. way to go BRP.

Props to Honda for making great changes to an already great machine!!

You make some good points bigger. I will say that during testing, they were able to carry more speed in most areas, not just in the slower more technical terrain, but in wide open areas on the Outy than on the 450r's DS's and YFZ's. Believe me, Penland's 800 was rather stock because of the class he ran in. The others were the equivalant of a scaled down trophy truck. Had they not had the tire problems, they would have been in contention.

Three things it takes to win Baja...

1) A great machine.
2) Great Riders
3) Lots of luck

They had 2 of the three. That's the legacy of Baja!!

True, but if a CRF250X can make it, the quads better be built to make it.
